UCCA x CINEMQ: Event Recap

Queer art gives physical expression to that which is often invisible to the public, and thus dismantles the dichotomy between “inside and outside.”

How does queer art affect the (in)visibility of LGBTQ people in contemporary China? How do spaces created by artists become spaces for queer people and queer collectivism? CINEMQ joined UCCA's In|Visible last weekend, a season of film screenings and discussions around the ways artists, filmmakers and community leaders bridge the gap between spectator and participant, making our invisible community visible.

CINEMQ presented SKIN, a program of short films on sensuality and unseen identities, featuring work from China, East Asia, Europe and North America. CINEMQ co-founder Matthew Baren was joined by filmmaker and marriage equality campaigner Stuart Gaffney for a discussion on 'queering' culture and social identities.

CINEMQ是一个短片展映和深夜派对的合成体,由一群异想天开的酷儿们筹划。我们将在每周发表与酷儿电影及荧幕文化相关的资讯和文章。想要投稿?请在关注我们的公众号后留言。

CINEMQ is a queer short film screening + party series. It is run by a group of queers with too much on their mind to sit still for long. We’re publishing articles on queer cinema and screen culture every week. Want to contribute? Message our account.
